According to new research, you’d have to run two marathons to burn off a traditional Christmas dinner. Looking at the habits of 1,000 people, the study conducted by Forza Supplements found that the average person eats up to 5,240 calories on Christmas Day with snacks and alcohol included.

To burn off all those excess calories, you’d have to run 83 kilometers to burn 2,600 calories. If you’d rather cycle off your Christmas dinner, you’ll need to hop on your bike for 175 kilometers.. Gym attendees will need to spend nine hours working out to burn 590 calories per hour. Rather swim it off? You’ll need to swim for 13 hours to kick those Christmas calories out the door.

 

Where Are These Christmas Calories Hiding?

The problem most people have is they tend to “write off” Christmas and go crazy – not during the Christmas dinner, but all the endless snacks which are brought out between meals,’ says Lee Smith, Forza Supplements managing director.

It’s not difficult to see why many people will eat more than twice their recommended daily calories intake in one meal.

At a glance, three roasted russet potatoes contains 600 calories, four slices of delicious turkey contains 404 calories, two glasses of bubbly Champagne adds an additional 226 calories and a normal portion of Christmas pudding with butter and custard to top off the meal has 587 calories in one serving. Therefore, be careful of what you put, and how much you put on, your dinner plate. Even the smallest things can add on to your calorie intake.

On average, we gain 4 pounds between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day. In a survey of more than 1,000 people, Forza Supplements discovered that more than a third of the recipients said it would take them at least four months to get back to the shape they were in before Christmas.

When people realise they have to do an exponential amount of exercise to burn off the calories consumed by having Christmas dinner, then they might just call it quits after eating the turkey.
